Women's Heart Assessment
Each year, more women die from heart disease than from breast, ovarian and uterine cancer combined. Unfortunately, most women don’t understand their risk for heart disease.
The risk of developing heart disease is unique to each individual. Call the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital to schedule your Women’s Heart Health Assessment. Our nurse will work with you to develop a personalized plan for healthy living.
Invest in living better
Your visit is an investment in living better. During your initial appointment, you will complete a risk assessment and have other blood tests. Our staff reviews the results of those tests to identify which elements of your life increase your risk for heart disease.
We provide the following tests:
- Lipids
- fasting blood sugar
- hsCRP
- heart rate
- blood pressure
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- waist/hip ratio
We also offer a Women & Heart Screening Questionnaire that evaluates your individual risk for heart disease.
Feel better … Live better
During your follow-up visit, a nurse will spend an hour with you discussing the results and collaborating with you to develop an improvement plan that works for you. This will include reviewing your lab results, coaching you to improve or reinforce heart healthy habits and creating a health improvement contract tailored to your lifestyle. Other services may be offered to you during your appointment, such as smoking cessation programs, stress management or exercise consultation.
Some issues discussed at your appointment may require the attention of your primary care physician. The nurse will help you identify these issues such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol results. You will be given written information to follow-up with your physician as needed.
