Interventional – Cardiac The cardiovascular catheterization laboratory at the Minneapolis Heart Institute and Abbott Northwestern Hospital offers a variety of leading interventional treatments. The techniques include coronary balloon angioplasty, coronary stent implantation, atherectomy procedures, intracoronary ultrasound and vascular closure devices. In addition, a range of medications-including platelet-inhibiting drugs-are often combined with interventional procedures to improve initial results and long-term effectiveness. Physicians in this area also actively participate in research projects such as tracking clinical outcomes. This area of practice also has established a cardiologist-in-training program in interventional cardiology.
