Echocardiography: Flail Mitral Valve Trial - Correlation of Transesophageal Echocardiogram and Surgical Findings in Patients with Significant Mitral Regurgitation
Cardiac Imaging Research
Study of:
This is a study designed to help cardiologists and surgeons to better understand the anatomy and physiology of a leaky mitral valve. The study will compare the results of a transesophageal echocardiogram (ultrasound) (TEE) before valve surgery to what the surgeon directly visualizes during surgery.
Patients who are scheduled to undergo surgery for mitral valve regurgitation (leaky valve) will undergo a TEE before surgery. A TEE is standard practice prior to surgery. The TEE results will be rigorously compared to the surgeon’s findings during surgery. The goal is to better understand the disease process that leads to mitral valve regurgitation.
