Practice Philosophy
"Progress in cardiology is occurring at an exponential pace and the complexity of the cardiac patient is ever increasing. It is of utmost importance for us to deliver not only elementary care with excellence, but also provide cutting-edge therapy. This can only occur at institutions such as the Minneapolis Heart Institute® which has and continues to emphasize research at the highest level. MHI patients receive care of the highest quality in a sympathetic and caring fashion. Just as important, the explanation of the often complex care is also highly comprehensible to the patients and their families.
I personally feel that we need to incorporate the vascular component of "cardiovascular" care. Cardiologists are often the only sub-specialist seen by many patients. The pathology in cardiac and peripheral vascular diseases contains tremendous overlap. There are a significant number of concurrent peripheral vascular problems in the cardiac patient that are under-recognized and under-treated. Treatment often conveys improvement in quality of life as well as mortality. The cardiologist thus must be an advocate in the detection and treatment of ALL vascular disease."
